<br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />Meeting Date: August 6, 2013 <br />Time: 5:15 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br /> 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Commissioners Present: Paul Bleck, Shane Kitchens, Fanny Au Hoy, Alvin Akina, Jr. <br /> John Hetherington, Nancy Burns and Adam Broderson <br />Absent and Excused: Theresa Andreae and Sammie Stanbro <br />Applicants/Representatives: Colin Finn <br />Planning Department: Bennett Mark, Keola Childs and Linh Lee <br />Public: None <br /> <br />A quorum was present. Chair Hetherington called the meeting to order and the Commissioners <br />introduced themselves. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />Minutes of the Meeting of July 23, 2013. <br /> <br />It was moved by Commissioner Kitchens and seconded by Commissioner Au Hoy that approval of <br />the Minutes be moved to the end of the Agenda. The motion was unanimously carried by a voice <br />vote of all Commissioners present. <br /> <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br /> – None. <br /> <br />Chair Hetherington recused himself of the chairmanship as he is the applicant for the next sign permit <br />review. Vice Chair Bleck assumed the Chair position. <br /> <br />NEW BUSINESS <br /> <br />1. Design review of a sign permit application for a proposed marquee sign for Daylight Mind <br />Coffee Company. Applicant: John L. Hetherington. Land Owner: Watamull Properties <br />Corp., TMK: 7-5-008:009. Located in the Waterfront Row commercial building, at 75-5776 <br />Ali’i Drive, Kailua-Kona, next to Hale Halawai. <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Childs described the proposed marquee sign by going over the applicant’s submittal. He said <br />that the proposed sign area and lettering size meets the 12 square foot and 9 inch letter height <br />limitations of the Sign Code, but the proposed logo, at 10 inches height, exceeds the 9 inch height <br />allowable in Kailua Village. Mr. Childs also noted an artwork map image on the proposed sign, and <br />explained that if this map image is not part of the image set associated with the subject business, it is <br />1 <br /> <br />
