North Kohala Community Access Group Meeting Notes January 8, 2014 (Old Courthouse 4:30pm) Participants: Toni Withington, Carter Collins, Jack Hoyt, Susan Fischer, Charlie Anderson, Keith Wallis, Aric Arakaki, Ralph Galan, Joe Carvalho, Ted Matsuda. Akoakoa Point (Bird Cave) Joe will arrange with Aldridge a walk thru sometime this month. Hapu'u Kapanaia This corridor is #3 on the PONC list for public purchase and will be nominated to the Land Legacy Commission this year as an option to get matching funds for public purchase. There are 4 land owners with 7 parcels Pacific Plains, Misty Kai, Charlie and Lisa Anderson, Hon Family Trust. · We should ask the County Council to move a resolution to purchase these parcels. There are 3 parcels on the Anderson property that are listed for public purchase. The one with 22 acres contains the Hale O' Kaiili Heiau site and is most important to · preserve. Halelua Ted will follow up with Fred Cachola to contact the State Historic Preservation to peruse marking of Ohau Heiau on the ground. Kauhola Lighthouse There was a clean-up of the area in December Jeff Coakley is organizing an ocean resource conservation group Upolu Airport - East end of the runway The NK CDP Action committee sent a letter of recommendation on the access plan to the Planning Director. The landowners proposed this access plan because the 2002 settlement with the county and previous landowner Surety is in the middle of the property that is seldom used as opposed to this one. The landowners (EWM) will go back to the original access plan of the 2002 settlement if the community doesnt want this new access plan. We need to see the access agreement with other clubs and landowners. Kaiholena Lot F Purchase Contract sent to Ala Kahakai Trail Assn. from EWM. ATA VP Alan Brown currently reviewing the contract The Ala Kahakai Trail association is still pursuing final funding for public purchase. Kiiokalani Ahupua'a (Black Point) Some people of the community and the access group did a walk thru with the landowner and planning department personnel. The new home is 15' above the mauka edge of the Ala Loa (Jeep road). We should write a letter of recommendation to accept this access plan.
