WINDWARD PLANNING COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII <br />HEARING TRANSCRIPT <br />APRIL 6, 2017 <br />A regularly advertised hearing on the application of JAN VALDEZ (USE 17-066) was called to <br />order at 9:02 a.m. in the County of Hawaii Aupuni Center Conference Room, 101 Pauahi Street, <br />Hilo, Hawaii with Chairman Gregory Henkel presiding. <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Joseph Clarkson, Donn Dela Cruz, Gregory Henkel, Donald <br />Ikeda, and Myles Miyasato. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Michael Yee (Planning Director), Malia Ho (Deputy Corporation Counsel <br />for the Windward Planning Commission), Jeff Darrow (Planning Program Manager), Maija <br />Jackson (Planner), Christian Kay (Planner), Shancy Watanabe (Planner), and Sarah Hata-Finley <br />(Commission Secretary). <br />And 8 members from the public in attendance. <br />APPLICANT: JAN VALDEZ (USE 17-066) <br />Application for a Use Permit to allow the establishment of a two-bedroom bed and breakfast <br />operation within an existing three-bedroom dwelling situated on approximately 40,336 square <br />feet of land within the Single -Family Residential (RS -20) zoning district. The property is <br />located within the Honoli`i Pali Tract on the south side of Honoli`i Place, about 600 feet south of <br />the Honoli`i Place/ Pauka`a Drive intersection, Pauka`a, South Hilo, Hawaii, TMK: 2-7- <br />015:012. <br />HENKEL: The first order of business today on the agenda is Applicant, Jan Valdez, USE 17- <br />066. If there's anybody that would like to testify, please fill the sign -out, sign -in sheet by the <br />door and submit it to the staff If you have written testimony to any of the agenda items, please <br />submit it to the staff also. <br />So, looks like Maija's going to make the presentation, all right? <br />JACKSON: Thank you, Mr. Chair. Good morning, everyone. <br />COMMISSIONERS: Good morning. <br />JACKSON: Okay, the first item on the agenda today is a Use Permit request from Jan Valdez. <br />The subject property is located in the South Hilo District in the community of Honoli`i. You can <br />see the property located where the red dot is shown on the screen. So, running in a north -south <br />direction, we have the Hawaii Belt Road. And, then, coming off of that is the road to the <br />property, which is called Honoli`i Place. <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
