<br />1 SOUTH KOHALA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PLAN ACTION COMMITTEE <br />2 aka HUI KULEANA O KOHALA HEMA <br />3 southkohalaactioncommittee@gmail.com <br />4 County of Hawai’i <br />5 MINUTES <br />6 Meeting Date: March 23, 2015 <br />7 Call to order: 5:00 pm <br />8 Place: Waikoloa Village Association Community Room <br />9 68 Melia Street, Waikoloa Village, HI 96738 <br />10 Roll Call: <br />11 1Members present: Josephine (Jojo) Tanimoto, Christopher (Kit) <br /> <br />12 Roehrig, Joel Cohen, John Mueller, John Hoover <br />13 2Absent/Excused: Roger Harris <br /> <br />14 3Planning Department: Deanne Bugado, Ali Catalano <br /> <br />15 4Public in attendance: Diane Kaneali’i, Aric Arakaki, Barbara Bell, <br /> <br />16 William Case, David Tarnas, Vas Podorean, Lani Yamasaki, George <br />17 Robertson, Ron Gonzales (introduced by Jojo to be a Leeward <br />18 Planning Commissioner). <br />19 5Council Members Present: Margaret Wille <br /> <br />20 STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC REGARDING ITEMS ON AGENDA <br />21 None. <br />22 PRESENTATION <br />23 1.Barbara Bell, a member of the Public Access, Open Space & Natural Resources <br /> <br />24 Preservation Commission gave a brief presentation about the Commission <br />25 and nomination of properties by the public for 2015. <br />26 She asked if there were ever properties that were brought up within the CDP <br />27 that were in danger of being developed. She explained that if this were to <br />28 ever happen, that the Action Committee could fill out a simple form for <br />29 review if they deem a specific parcel in need of protection from development. <br />30 2.Bill Case, gave the AC an overview of the Waimea water system, past, present <br /> <br />31 and future. The Action Committee asked questions and there was discussion <br />32 on budget, water department meetings, and possible ways to implement a <br />33 warning system when there is a major decrease in water. <br />34 3.Vas Podorean and Lani Yamasaki, spoke in regards to Liquid Robotics, a <br /> <br />35 partner of the South Kohala Conservation Action Plan. They have been <br />36 conducting water quality monitoring at the request of Kailapa Community <br />37 Association and Puako Community Association and volunteer with NOAA to <br />38 serve on rescue missions for marine mammals along the west coast of Hawaii <br />39 Island. <br />40 They explained wave powered data collection, how they are monitoring the <br />41 ocean and water quality, and how it pertains to the CDP.
