<br /> <br />KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br />COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I <br />MINUTES <br />Meeting Date: June 5, 2018 <br />Time: 5:15 p.m. <br />Place: West Hawai‘i Civic Center <br />nd <br />Planning Department Conference Room – Building E, 2 Floor <br />74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i, 96740 <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Commissioners Present: Shaun Roth, Zon Sullenberger, Michaela Ikeuchi, Jasmine Crusat, <br />and Bryant Ching. <br />Absent and Excused: Peter Dahlberg, John Hetherington, Mark Van Pernis, and Ann <br />Kern. <br />Planning Department: Terry Dunlap (Planner), Deanne Bugado (Planner) <br />Applicants/Representatives: Dennis Bartlett, applicant <br />Public: Dave Drahn and Dave Burns <br />A quorum was present, Chairman Shaun Roth called the meeting to order at 5:15 p.m. and the <br />Commissioners introduced themselves. <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Minutes of the Meeting of March 6, 2018. <br />Chairman Roth asked if there were any corrections to the minutes. No corrections were offered <br />and the minutes were approved as circulated. <br />STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC ON AGENDA ITEMS <br />There was no one from the public who wished to testify on any items on the agenda at this time. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />1. The applicant, Dennis Bartlett, is proposing to construct eight (8) – two-story dormitory <br />buildings, with a light color scheme, referred to as Village 5, at the campus of the University <br />of the Nations Kona Inc., located on a parcel that is situated between Hualalai Road and <br />Kuakini Highway, in Kailua-Kona, HI. <br />Applicant: Dennis Bartlett <br />Landowner: University of the Nations Kona Inc. <br />TMK: (3) 7-5-010:003 <br />Location: 75-332 Hualalai Road, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 <br />Mr. Dunlap presented a slideshow of the project, giving a brief overview of the applicant’s <br />submittal and described the proposed project to KVDC. Terry focused on the enlarged area of <br />the site plan with the buildings and pedestrian paths and how they work through the site, parking <br />is not available next to the new dormitory buildings at this phase.
