REQUEST: <br /> Creation of two (2) permanent Cultural Technician positions, 1 Full-time and 1 Part-time (20 hours a week) <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Since October 2013, the Department of Parks and Recreation hired two contract employees (one full-time <br /> and 1 part-time (16 hours a week) to monitor vehicles accessing the road to the valley and provide <br /> information at the Waipio Lookout. The Department has exhausted contract exemptions and has been <br /> advised to transfer these duties to a civil service position. <br /> Current contracts end June 30, 2020. The Department would like to hire effective July 1, 2020. <br /> The duties and responsibilities of the contract positions have been updated and are in line with the Cultural <br /> Technician class of work. The positions will continue to provide interpretive information of Waipio Valley's <br /> natural, cultural, historical, and other features to enrich those visiting or traveling to the valley and will be <br /> providing cultural information and activities <br /> The Department has allocatted $60,000 for the contracts.
