Pursuant to County drainage <br /> requirements, appropriate drywell and/or similar means to <br /> capture runoff from the newly constructed improvements will be <br /> built, if necessary, in conjunction with the subdivision approval <br /> process. <br /> 2. Tsunami Hazard <br /> As the site is located over two (2) miles from the_ocean,_it is <br /> located outside of the Civil Defense's Tsunami Evacuation <br /> Zone. <br /> 3. Volcanic and Earthquake Hazards <br /> The United States Geological Survey (USGS) classifies the <br /> area as Lava Flow Hazard Zone 8, on a scale of ascending risk <br /> 9 to 1. The City of Hilo is classified Zone 3. <br /> The entire island of Hawaii falls within Earthquake Zone 4, <br /> according to the County Building Code. As such, certain <br /> structural requirements will be needed and taken during the <br /> building permit process to address this seismic hazard. <br /> D. Flora/Fauna <br /> Although there were no professional surveys conducted of the floral <br /> or-faunal resources of the site, the Applicants do not believe that rare <br /> or endangered floral or faunal resources are likely to be found within <br /> the subject site. <br /> The site is generally cultivated into fruit bearing trees with an <br /> - equestrian component. It was formerly used for Sugar cane. As such, <br /> the Applicants-do not believe tt-rat the property cloeb not have any-- <br /> for <br /> The site is not known to be a habitat for any rare or endangered <br /> animal life. Given its elevation, however, it would be possible to find <br /> the Hawaiian Hawk (Po) and the Hawaiian Owl (Puce). Further the <br /> rural nature of the surrounding areas would make it less likely to find <br /> endangered animal life in this area. <br /> 12 <br />
