Maka`ula-`O`oma abut the subdivision to the north from the 2,100 to 3,500-foot <br /> elevation. Bishop Estate lands of Ka`upulehu surround the subdivision to the north at the <br /> 3,500 to 5,400-foot elevation. These lands are currently used by Hualalai Ranch. The <br /> Ka`iipulehu Forest Reserve is located mauka(east) of the subdivision. <br /> 19. Agricultural Lands of Importance to the State of Hawaii (ALISH): The subject <br /> property is "Other Important Agricultural Land" on the State Agricultural Lands of <br /> Importance Map. 3 <br /> r <br /> 20. Land Study Bureau's Detailed Land Classification Systems: The Land Study Bureau <br /> 3 <br /> (LSB) designates the subject property as"D" or"Poor" and`B" or"Very Poor". <br /> 21. U.S. Soil Survey: The soils on the subject property are classified as rKXD, Kiloa <br /> Extremely Soil Muck. This soil consists of well drained thin, extremely stony organic <br /> sails over fragmental A`a lava and is uses primarily for woodland and pasture. <br /> 22. Flood Zone: The subject parcel is in an area designated as Zone "X" on the Flood <br /> Insurance Rate Map (FIRM)by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Zone X is <br /> an area determined to be outside the 500-year flood plain. <br /> i <br /> 3 <br /> 23. Floral/Faunal Resources: There were no professional surveys conducted of the floral or <br /> 3 <br /> faunal resources of the subject property,however the applicant does not believe that any <br /> are or endangered flora or faunal resources are likely to be found within the subject <br /> I <br /> property. According to the applicant, the site is presently heavily forested with native <br /> trees and shrubs such as ohia, tree fern, other native trees and shrubs, and nonnative <br /> vegetation. Wildlife at the property consists of turkeys, hawks, Chinese pheasants, and <br /> other forest birds. Vegetative cover is a mixture of native and non-native species. <br /> According to the State Department of Land and Natural Resources—Division of Forestry <br /> and Wildlife the Hoary Bat or `Ope`ape`a, the Blackburn's Sphinx Moth, the Hawaiian <br /> Goose or Nene, and the Hawaiian Hawk or `lo could potentially occur in the vicinity of <br /> the project area. <br /> 24. Historical/Archaeological Resources: The property is located within the boundaries of a <br /> pre-contact age upland agricultural system known as the Kona Field System, which is <br /> listed in the State Inventory of Historic Places. The property was the subject of a <br /> reconnaissance survey and test excavations in 1970 and 1971 by Hu`ehu`e Ranch,the <br /> developers of the Kaloko Mauka Subdivision.
