Honorable Maile David, Chairwoman
and Members of the Hawaii County Council
June 3, 2022
Page 6
Organization: Kohanaiki 'Ohana (" ")
POMC Land: (3)7-3-009:004 [`O'oa Lands]Acquired 2013
Amount Requested: $24,880 (Total Project Cost: $44,880)
KO's proposal, as I understand it, consists of the following objectives:
1. Collect seeds and propagate various native plants for proposed ongoing and future out-
planting projects for beach erosion mitigation at the `O`oma Lands.
2. Maintain and protect native plants through installation of signage, protective barriers, and
removal of inaysive/alien plants.
3. Enhancement of both entryways to beach/shoreline area.
Review of KO's objectives, as presented in its business plan, project description and budget details
informed the following assessments:
1. Objective#1 appears to qualify under criteria (2), (3) and (4).
2. Objective#2 appears to qualify under criteria (2) and (3).
3. Objective#3 appears to qualify under criterion (13).
Given the above, it is my recommendation that Kohanaiki `Ohana will be able to complete its project in
accordance with the project description submitted and in strict adherence to the conditions governing the
PONC Maintenance Fund.
i
i
(This space intentionally left blank—continued on next papej
County of Hawai'i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.
