HI county - submitting legislation to repeal the state preemption language to regulate tobacco products (need to know if OK to submit directly as will not be approved by Hawaii county until Oct 19). 2. HNL County is also drafting a preemption bill. 3. Maui county - re-drafting the bill on coastal zone management SPAT 4. HNL county has paid their NACo and HSAC dues 5. Kauai county - mailed their dues, waiting to receive them 6. CA State Association sent an invite to attend their annual meeting Nov 14-18 th. 7. Maui county submitted 4 measures for HSAC leg package CM Chock:Motion to accept the reports. Accepted. All reports received. V. NEW BUSINESS a. Discussion regarding the next 2023 HSAC conference. CMKimball:It was great we made the goal of making this a fundraising event, the golf tournament element was an asset. Some lessons learned right of the bat, we are really happy with the app platform and how that helped us organize the event. In the future, HSAC might want to consider hiring an event planner. Our staff did all the ticketing and registration, which an event planner would already know. We were very concerned that we were not going to make it for the lunches with the additional registrations. Wondering if an event planner would make it worthwhile cost wise. Suggesting this to be considered in the future. CM Waters:Appreciate how hard it is to do this, we are talking about our HSAC package later on but we missed the perfect opportunity to invite legislators to talk story with us. We talked before about flying to Honolulu whereas they could fly to us. CM Kimball: They were invited multiple times, I definitely think it would be great to have them here. For Kauai there may need to be some marketing done there to get them there.
