JNtY'.Ue H,� <br /> 1�Jir, <br /> COUNTY OF I-IAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAII <br /> +A�4 ua Mot:•'t� <br /> 'it}'O'F°Hpvi <br /> SOLUTI � <br /> A RESOLUTION TO AWARD A PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE,ANIS NATURAL <br /> RESOURCES PRESERVATION MAINTENANCE FUND STEWARDSHIP GRANT TO <br /> POHAHA I KA LANI. <br /> WHEREAS, Section 10-16 of the Hawaii County Charter establishes a Public Access, <br /> Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund (hereinafter"Maintenance <br /> Fund") "to preserve the land, promote public safety, and maintain a healthy stewardship"; and <br /> WHEREAS, Section 10-16(h) of the Hawaii County Charter provides that the <br /> Maintenance Fund may be used for a stewardship grant program for properties purchased via the <br /> Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund, which allows 501(c)3 <br /> nonprofit organizations to apply for grant-in-aid project funding for stewardship projects; and <br /> WHEREAS, P6hdha I Ka Lani is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to <br /> revitalize and advance indigenous Hawaiian culture; and <br /> WHEREAS, P6hdha I Ka Lani submitted a Maintenance Fund stewardship grant <br /> application to continue providing land stewardship and cultural education for the Waipi`o Valley <br /> Lookout, which is situated in the Hdmdkua District (TMK: (3) 4-8-004:006), and acquired via <br /> the Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Fund after adoption of <br /> Resolution No. 427-06; and <br /> WHEREAS, during its September 12, 2022, meeting and pursuant to section 2-217 of <br /> the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the Public Access, Open Space, and <br /> Natural Resources Preservation Commission forwarded a positive recommendation for this <br /> project to the Director of Finance; and <br /> WHEREAS, Communication No. 1077, issued by the Director of Finance on October <br /> 14, 2022, submitted for the Council's consideration nine applicants for stewardship grants for <br /> various properties that have been acquired by the County using the Public Access, Open Space, <br /> and Natural Resources Preservation Fund; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Director of Finance in Communication No. 1077 recommends that <br /> P6hand I Ka Lani will be able to complete its project in accordance with the project description <br /> submitted and in strict adherence to the conditions governing the Public Access, Open Space, <br /> and Natural Resources Preservation Maintenance Fund; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council finds that awarding a stewardship grant to P6hdha I Ka Lani <br /> will allow it to contiunue it ongoing efforts to reduce invasive species, propagate native plants, <br /> educate users about the area's history and culture, and preserve the land, promote public safety, <br /> and maintain a healthy stewardship; and <br />
