Form #: B-52 <br /> 7118191 <br /> DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION <br /> DEPARMENT: Research and Development DATE: November 23, 2022 <br /> STAFF CONTACT: Sarah Freeman PHONE: 961-8582 <br /> A REQUEST: <br /> This is a request for a resolution to enter into a contract with Hui Malama i ke Ala 'Ulili, a <br /> non-profit organization, for the purpose of supporting the Kahi Hanai Kanaka o huiMAU: <br /> huiMAU Community Hub for $100,000.00. This program will establish a community resilience <br /> hub in Pa'auilo to address the current and future needs for food systems, a sustainable <br /> economy and community care. <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The application, Kahi Hanai Kanaka o huiMAU: huiMAU Community Hub, was selected <br /> for funding as a result of the Request for Proposals (RFP) no. 2022-01. <br /> The Principal Investigator for this project is Hui Malama i ke Ala `Ulili (huiMAU). It <br /> will host 18 food distributions and each monthly event will serve an average of a <br /> thousand pounds of locally-sourced produce, proteins and value-added <br /> products. Approximately 245 individuals in the Hamakua area will receive the <br /> distributions. The award will allow huiMAU to extend food distribution hours, <br /> conduct educational workshops, events with local farmers and pilot sales o their <br /> products to support and maintain the food hub operations for the long term. <br /> SIGNED: DATE: November 23, 2022 <br /> D rtment Head <br />
