REOUEST:
Create two (2) School Crossing Guard/Temp (hourly)
positions for Kealakehe Elementary School, one at the
Kealakehe/Kealaka'a Street intersection, and the other at
the Kealakehe/Onipa'a Street intersection.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED)
Hundreds of children walk to and from school between the
two adjoining campuses of Kealakehe Elementary School
(population 995) and Kealakehe Intermediate School
(population 941) every day. The heavy traffic and speeding
conditions at the intersections of: 1) Kealakehe Street
and Kealaka'a Street and 2) Kealakehe St and Onipa'a
Street), pose a great danger to the children on a daily
basis. These intersections are governed by two-way stops,
Kealakehe Street being a through street, and Kealaka'a and
Onipa'a Streets with stop signs.
We feel strongly that crossing assistance at these two
intersections is warranted, and recommend that both
positions be created.

SIGNED~c V"-- DATE: Department Head
