28,800 gallons per day (gpd). The applicant anticipates that a 1/4 -inch water meter must <br />be installed within the last un -metered water lateral located along Konawaena School <br />Road to provide adequate water service to the proposed visitors' center complex. The <br />applicant has since revised its water demand calculations for the proposed visitors' center <br />complex to reflect a water consumption of 3,000 gpd, below the maximum 4,200 gpd <br />entitlement provided by the Department of Water Supply. Based on these revised <br />calculations, the Department of Water Supply is supporting the proposed change of zone <br />request, provided that they be given the opportunity to review any future use or stricture <br />beyond the proposed visitors' center complex to ensure that water demand for such uses <br />do not exceed water availability. <br />26. Wastewater: Wastewater to be generated by the proposed visitors' center will be <br />disposed of within a new septic tank system and leach field to replace the existing <br />cesspool. The systems will be designed and installed in accordance with State and <br />County requirements. <br />27. Police services: The main police station within the Kona district is located in Kealakehe, <br />approximately 10 miles north of the project site. A police substation is located in Captain <br />Cook, approximately 2 miles south of the project site. The Police Department did not <br />express any concerns that approval of the proposed change of zone request will impact <br />police services within the district. <br />28. Fire Protection services: Fire protection is provided by the Captain Cook fire station <br />located about 2-1/2 miles south of the project site. This station provides 24-hour service <br />with both fire protection and emergency medical response. <br />29. Solid Waste: The nearest landfill is the West Hawaii Landfill at Pu'uanahulu, which was <br />designed to serve as the regional solid waste disposal facility. <br />30. Utilities: According to the applicant, electricity lines are located along the Mamalahoa <br />Highway fronting the project site. All other utilities are or will be made available to <br />support the proposed project. <br />
