<br /> Lynn Amone (Ka Hale Kahalu'u), Patricia Oliveira (Prosecutor's Office),
<br /> Mel Fujino (Prosecutor's Office), Virginia Isbell, Linda L. Cullen (Solid
<br /> Rock Ministries), Gina Ready (Kaimalino), Francis Jung (HCDCH),

<br /> II. History:
<br /> A. 5-23-02 Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim, South Kona Council member
<br /> Nancy Pisicchio, along with the Hui Laulima Council, which consists of
<br /> 25 community agencies, groups, businesses and individuals, met
<br /> through the assistance of Senator Russel Kokubun, with HCDCH
<br /> Executive Director, Sharyn Miyashiro, her staff, and the housing
<br /> manager with Urban Real Estate Company.
<br /> B. On June 20, 2002, Ann Peterson, Community Empowerment
<br /> Organization (CEO) Facilitator, met with the Community Oriented
<br /> Prosecutor (COP) and Investigator to discuss mismanagement and
<br /> safety issues at Ka Hale Kahalu'u housing. Ann presented pictures
<br /> depicting the deplorable conditions of the units and common areas.
<br /> C. On July 5, 2002, Wally Lau, Jack Ferguson, Pastor James Texiera, '
<br /> Rodelle Smith, Lynnese Acia, Mel Fujino, Ann Peterson, Pat Oliveria,
<br /> Virginia Isbell, & Jan Marrack met to share information and strategize
<br /> as to how to best work together to improve the conditions at Ka Hale
<br /> Kahalu'u housing.
<br /> D. On July 29, 2002, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney sent a letter
<br /> with copies of the pictures to Mr. Michael Flores requesting a site visit
<br /> and follow-up planning meeting.
<br /> E. August 7, 2002, Bob Hall contacted the Prosecutor's Office and
<br /> represented that the board of directors met and that he would be
<br /> handling the situation at Ka Hale Kahalu'u. At this time, a team from
<br /> Oahu was in the process of assessing the housing property and units
<br /> during the day. Mr. Hall will review the report from today's assessment
<br /> and begin to make the necessary improvements. Private contractors
<br /> will be hired to speed up the process.
<br /> F. In a letter dated August 8, 2002, Michael Flores, Senior Operations
<br /> Specialist, from Housing and Urban Development, informed the
<br /> Prosecutor's Office as follows:
<br /> 1. Mike Hee visited Ka Hale Kahalu'u on August 7, 2002 to address
<br /> the physical problems with the buildings and units as depicted in
<br /> the photographs provided;
