<br /> Stacy Higa, Chairman <br /> <br /> and Members of the County Council <br /> <br /> Page 7 <br /> • Designate and allocate single-family residential zoned lands at varying densities <br /> for future use in accordance with the needs of the communities and the stated <br /> goals, policies, and standards. <br /> HOUSING <br /> • Attain safe, sanitary, and livable housing for the residents of the County of <br /> Hawaii. <br /> • Attain adiversity of socio-economic housing mix throughout the different parts of <br /> the County. <br /> • Maintain a housing supply that allows a variety of choice. <br /> • Increase rental opportunities and choices in terms of quality, cost, amenity, style <br /> and size of housing, especially for low and moderate income households. <br /> • Seek sufficient production of new affordable rental and fee-simple housing in the <br /> County in a variety of sizes to satisfactorily accommodate the needs and desires of <br /> families and individuals. <br /> • Ensure that housing is available to all persons regardless of age, sex, marital <br /> status, ethnic background and income. <br /> • Create viable communities with affordable housing and suitable living <br /> environments <br /> • Make affordable housing available in reasonable proximity to employment <br /> centers. <br /> • Encourage and expand home ownership opportunities for residents. <br /> • Encourage corporations and nonprofit organizations to participate in Federal, <br /> State and private programs to provide new and rehabilitated housing for low and <br /> moderate income families. <br /> Ensure that adequate infrastructure is available in appropriate locations to support <br /> the timely development of affordable housing. <br /> • Work with, encourage and support private sector efforts in the provision of <br /> affordable housing. <br /> <br />
