Higa, Chairman and <br /> Members of the Hawai'i County Council <br /> Hawai'i County Council <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, Hawai'i 96720 <br /> <br /> Re: Operating Budget <br /> <br /> The State of Hawai'i Legislature enacted Act 160, Session Laws of Hawai'i 2006, known as the <br /> Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2006, which in part, appropriated $1,000,000 to the County <br /> of Hawai'i for the purpose of controlling coqui frogs. These funds will be utilized for the following: <br /> <br /> 1. Fund efforts to address coqui frog infestations, including incipient populations, and provide <br /> assistance to communities. <br /> <br /> 2. Fund community organizations and community associations' coqui frog efforts through the <br /> community mini-grant program where recipients receive up to $5,000 per award to address <br /> coqui frog infestations in their neighborhoods. <br /> <br /> 3. Fund Coqui Frog Work Group partners' efforts via field operations, research & development, <br /> public education & community outreach, and plant quarantine & nursery inspections. <br /> <br /> Pursuant to Act 160, the County will prepare a report that will focus on whether the coqui <br /> infestation on the island of Hawai'i can be controlled, stopped from expanding, reduced, or <br /> eradicated, and including project timetables, projected expenditures, potential <br /> volunteer/community contributions of time and funds, and coqui population targets over time; and <br /> that it be submitted to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the 2007 <br /> regular session. <br /> <br /> Enclosed is a resolution for Council's authorization to receive and expend state funding for the <br /> coqui frog eradication and control efforts by the County of Hawai'i, pursuant to Act 160, Session <br /> <br /> //Laws of Hawai'i 2006. <br /> `ew. wa "10 j elZU.3 x3 > Comm.
