REQUEST: <br /> <br /> Prepare a resolution for Council's authorization to receive and expend state funding for coqui frog eradication <br /> and control efforts on the island of Hawai'i. <br /> <br /> Appropriate these State funds of $1,000,000 to Coqui Frog Eradication & Control Account. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> <br /> The State of Hawai'i Legislature enacted Act 160, Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2006. <br /> <br /> This Act amends Act 178, Session Laws of Hawaii 2005, and other appropriations and authorizations <br /> effective during fiscal biennium 2005-2007. <br /> <br /> $1,000,00 shall be used by the Coqui Frog Eradication & Control Account for the following: <br /> - Fund efforts to address coqui frog infestations, including incipient populations, and provide assistance to <br /> communities. <br /> - Fund community organizations and community associations' coqui frog efforts through the community mini- <br /> grant program where recipients receive up to $5,000 per award to address coqui frog infestations in their <br /> neighborhoods. <br /> - Fund Coqui Frog Work Group partners' efforts via field operations, research & development, public <br /> education & community outreach, and plant quarantine & nursery inspections. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> SIGNED: QN,~ DATE: glOu-'«O <br /> Department Head <br />
