Angel; Isbell, Virginia; <br /> counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us <br /> Subject: Please Approve the Resolution introduced by Chairman Higa to grant a Certificate of Sufficiency on <br /> the 2% Ballot Intiative. <br /> <br /> ATTN: County Council July 13, 2006 <br /> Testimony 2% ballot initiative APPROVE <br /> <br /> <br /> Aloha County Council and Mayor Kim, <br /> <br /> <br /> I would like to submit testimony in person regarding the Resolution introduced by Chairman Higa to <br /> grant a Certificate of Sufficiency on the 2% Ballot Initiative, but I live in Hilo, and the Council meeting <br /> is in Kona. <br /> <br /> Nevertheless, I would like to encourage you to please support the resolution. Hawai'i is one of the most <br /> beautiful places in the world. We need to think about what kind of an island we want to leave our <br /> children. By allowing the county to use county funds to buy open lands enables beautiful places to be <br /> preserved for all for generations to come. The county is in a prime position to buy lands because of the <br /> matching funds available through the federal government. <br /> Please let the voters decide in November to modify the existing Open Space and Natural Resources <br /> Ordinance by making the following changes: <br /> <br /> 1-Set aside 2% of the property tax each and every year for Open Space and Natural resource acquisition <br /> and <br /> 2- Eliminate the limit of $5 million that can be held in the fund. <br /> <br /> I would like to ask the council to honor over 9,000 people who have signed this Petition. We ask the <br /> County to include signatures of voters that: <br /> <br /> 1- forgot to write the st. ave. or highway suffix as part of their residence addresses C c <br /> 2- forgot to put the year 2006 in the date column.
