And I think Ane would, if you were to look at Ane as its true meaning would not refer to this woman as Anela, where Ana would be more appropriate, I believe, in this respect. True, the Great Mahele has her as Ane but it should have been Anela. And because of, and out of respect for the kupunas, as Clarence says, the younger people would know her as Ane because they did not know her true name as Ana. So on just that note, I would think that the Ce~~mission would recommend the change of the name. And, again, it's not to dispute our books on Hawaiians and their surnames, except that I've been called all kinds of nicknames too and some of them stick with me.
