1. Purchase or build appropriate traps for feral pigs. <br /> 2. Formulate a procedure to receive requests for trapping assistance from <br /> Hawaii County residents and to obtain written permission from said residents <br /> for the setting of traps on private property, including indemnification of the <br /> County of Hawaii and the designated Pig Hunters Association and their <br /> respective agents from any and all liabilities, losses, or damages arising out of <br /> the trapping of feral pigs on said private property. <br /> 3. Set and monitor traps and retrieve animals that aze successfully trapped in <br /> accordance with guidelines formulated by the County and the designated Pig <br /> Hunters Association. <br /> 4. Formulate a disposition plan for trapped feral pigs, whereby Hawaii County <br /> families are able to utilize them for subsistence purposes. <br /> 5. Prepare a written report that shall include, at a minimum, the following <br /> harvest information: date of harvest, location of property, name and address <br /> of property owner, number of feral pigs trapped, and disposition of animals. <br /> 6. Prepaze written recommendations for future feral pig control prograzns in <br /> Hawaii County. <br /> 7. Present said written report and recommendations to the Council at a regulazly <br /> scheduled Committee and/or Council meeting in August 2008. <br /> WHEREAS, the Council supports the development of a one-yeaz pilot program to trap <br /> <br /> invasive feral pigs in residential and agricultural communities in Hawaii County by <br /> <br /> recommending a $100,000 appropriation for the Department of Reseazch and Development to <br /> <br /> administer this vital program beginning July 1, 2007 and ending June 30, 2008; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council shall designate one of its members to participate in the <br /> formulation of this one-year pilot program with the Mayor, Department of Research and <br /> Development, and established Pig Hunters Association; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> <br /> Mayor, Department of Reseazch and Development, and designated Council Member aze <br /> <br /> authorized to coordinate with an established Hawaii Island Pig Hunters Association to formulate <br /> <br /> a one-year pilot program to trap invasive feral pig populations in residential communities and <br /> <br /> agricultural farm lots on Hawaii Island; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council recommends an appropriation of <br /> <br /> $100,000 in the upcoming FY 2007-2008 budget for the Department of Research and <br /> <br /> Development to fund said one-year pilot program; and <br /> 2 <br /> <br />
