County 0 <br /> 1. Give reasons how new duties arose (statutes enacted, ordinances, newly <br /> authorized programs, basis for increased workloads, etc.): <br /> The position is currently of a temporary nature, and funded by a State grant, through <br /> the Safe Communities Grant for traffic safety. This position was developed to <br /> address impaired driving and resulting traffic injuries and deaths, to include the <br /> development of an Impaired Driving Task Force, education initiatives, and serve as <br /> the Police Department's liaison with the other government agencies, such as the <br /> Prosecutor's Office, Department of Health, State Department of Transportation, and <br /> the public. <br /> <br /> 2. Can new duties be assigned to existing positions or handled in other way such as <br /> short term contracts, etc.? <br /> No, our current Traffic Services will be reorganized, and staff in the Driver License and <br /> Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection programs will be transferred to the Finance <br /> Department effective July 1, 2007. The positions will leave a huge void in this section, <br /> and other duties that are currently assigned to several positions, will have to be <br /> reassigned to the remaining two County positions. <br /> As this position has been created as a Civil Service position and determined to be a <br /> productive asset to the department, trying to fill it on a short term contract or <br /> temporary appointment would not be in the best interest of the department, the <br /> Impaired Driving Task Force, and community. <br /> <br />
