REQUEST: Prepare a resolution to accept a gift of $39,567 from the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund. The funds are designated to purchase water rescue equipment (approximately $27,567), and to contract an instructor for "Ropes Course III" ($12,000), for the the rescue personnel based at Waiakea Station and Kailua Station of the Hawaii Fire Department. Please send a letter of appreciation and a copy of the resolution to: Hawaii Community Foundation, attention: Kalei Stern, 1164 Bishop Street, Suite 800, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The funds are being received from the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund which is organized under the umbrella of the Daniel Robert Sayre Memorial Fund. The Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. Glen and Donna Malkin in memory of their son Gregg who perished in a drowning accident offshore of Makuu Drive, Hawaiian Paradise Park, a day after Thanksgiving Day, 2006. The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund was established by Dr. Frank and Laura Sayre in memory of their son, Daniel who lost his life in a tragic accident in Pololu Valley. The Fund annually recognizes the bravery of the Hawaii County Fire Rescue squads and provides monetary support to purchase need rescue equipment for the department.
