REQUEST: <br /> <br /> Prepare a resolution authorizing the Mayor to accept a grant from Fireman's Fund, an insurance company. <br /> Prepare a complimentary ordinance as follows: <br /> 3607.00 Contribution from Private Sources $14,700.00 <br /> 010.221.5228.13 Fire Grants-Fireman's Fund $14,700.00 <br /> <br /> Please schedule these proposals to be heard for first reading for the June 2, 2008 Council meeting, as we <br /> would like to purchase the respirators for immediate use because of the current volcanic activity. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> Firemans Fund Insurance has a grant program called "Fireman's Fund Heritage", which issues funds to <br /> fire departments throughout the United States for various needs. The Hawai'i Fire Deparment (HFD) was <br /> granted $14,700 from this program. Funds will be utilized to purchase air purifying respirators for SCBAs. to <br /> be used by firefighters in high sulfer dioxide conditions as with the current volcanic activity. Once this <br /> resolution is approved and the "Grant Compliance Agreement" signed, the grantor will present a check for <br /> the stated amount.
