L021/BILL NO. 315 PLACE: Councilroom TIME: 9:00 a.m. Chair and Members Hawaii County Council Hilo, Hawaii 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks, to which was referred Communication No. 1021, and attached Bill No. 315, reports as follows: The purpose of Bill No. 315 is to amend Chapter 24, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition) by raising the existing 45 miles par hour speed limit along Routh 132, Pohoiki Junction to Route 137 to 55 miles per hour. Bill No. 315 would amend Chapter 24, Article IQ Division 1, Section 24-260, Schedule 8 (45 mile per hour limit), Subsection (g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 1,1995 Edition) by deleting the following item: [O Route 132, from the Pohoiki Road Junction to Roul.e 137.J Bil] No. 315 would amend Chapter 24, Article 1Q Division 1, Section 24-263, Schedule L 1 (55 mile per hour limit), Subsection (g) Puna, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 Edition), by adding the following to be appropriately numbered and to read as follows: Route 132, from the Pohoiki Road Junction to Route 137. Communication No. 1021 is from Deputy Chief Engineer Jiro A. Sumada, Department of Public Works, and dated October 5, 1998, stating a 45-mi]e per hour speed limit was authorized along Route 132, Pohoiki Junction to Route 137 in May of 1998. A request to raise the speed limit to 55 miles per hour was subsequently received. Mr. Sumada states that the Puna Police Department was consulted and concurs that 55 miles per hour is reasonable and prudent for this roadway under normal conditions.
