Form B-52
7/18/91
DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE

REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

DEPARTMENT: Public Works- Traffic Division DATE: October 7, 2008

STAFF CONTACT: Ronald Thiel PHONE: 961-8341

A. REQUEST:

A resolution to abolish the Traffic Technician II ( SR-15) position that was allocated in FY 07-08 budget (00-
04797) and to establish an Electronics Technician (BC-15) position using the funding from the abolished
position's salaries and wages for the new position.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USEADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):

The Traffic Technician II position was created last fiscal year to assist the Traffic Division with monitoring
traffic signals and working on the Intelligent Transportation System project. After review of the skills and
knowledge required for the position and required necessary training, it was determined that there is a greater
need for more technical skills and abilities in the Electronics field in order to support the Intelligent
Transportation System project and other projects developed by the Research and Development Section.
Without the Electronics Technician position, the Traffic Division will not be able to support the Intelligent
Transportation System project as effectively due to the lack of expertise in this specific area.

SIGNED:
Lc4_ DATE: Z0A-710S
2 Department Head
