REQUEST: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Prepare a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the 50th Anniversary of Statehood <br /> Commission to receive $40,000 for events being planned to commemorate the 501h anniversary of HawaiTs <br /> Statehood. <br /> <br /> Appropriate these State funds of $40,000 to the Statehood Commemoration account. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): <br /> The 50th Anniversary of Statehood Commission has planned a comprehensive year-long series of events <br /> and activities to honor the 50th anniversary of HawaiTs admission to the Union. The Hawai'i 50th <br /> Anniversary of Statehood Commission will be providing $40,000 to support costs associated with dedicated <br /> commemorative events being planned for Hawai'i County. <br /> <br /> The Commission's focus has always been on education, therefore they envision that these activities will <br /> provide not only fun and entertainment, but also an enlightening experience for all the people of Hawaii. <br /> <br /> Since the Statehood anniversary is in a few short months, we are asking for a waiver from the Finance <br /> Committee and to have this resolution and bill heard at the next Council meeting on May 6, 2009. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> SIGNED: DATE: April 23, 2009 <br /> <br /> P partm nt ad <br />
