Sako <br />Deputy Director <br />>2 <br />ra <br />0 <br />rJ <br />rn <br />Re: Capital Budget <br />Under the provisions of the Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act; the County of <br />Hawaii, the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation <br />Service (NRCS), and the Waiakea and Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District <br />desire to develop flood protection structures along Kaumana Drive for the Wailuku- Alenaio <br />Watershed. Earlier in this fiscal year, NRCS provided $191,000 towards the estimated <br />costs of engineering surveys and design services for the Kaumana Drive Flood Protection <br />Phase of the Wailuku - Alenaio Watershed. Now, NRCS is providing an additional <br />$250,000 to complete the design work. This project includes the preparation of <br />construction plans and specifications to provide flood protection to homes along Ka0mana <br />Drive between Chong Street and one -half mile above Wilder Road. <br />Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance appropriating an additional $250,000 to the federal <br />portion of the Kaumana Drive Flood Protection Phase of the Wailuku - Alenaio Watershed <br />Plan project in the FY2009 -10 capital budget. This bill also appropriates the County's <br />portion of $350,000 towards this overall project; for design work for the culvert <br />replacement on Wilder Road and a FEMA Conditional Letter of Map Revision. <br />If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Department of Public Works. <br />
