A new division <br /> titled Vehicle Registration and Licensing was created to include those activities as well as <br /> vehicle registration and other licensing operations into one division under Finance. <br /> The purpose of the re- organization was threefold: <br /> • To free up Police officers and office space from driver licensing operations so <br /> resources could be focused on Police core functions. <br /> • To gain efficiencies that could ultimately result from the combination of licensing and <br /> registration functions. <br /> • To provide improved service to the public by bringing vehicle registration to areas <br /> that previously had no services, or had only driver licensing. <br /> One of the targeted areas for providing combined services is Kohala. At this time Driver <br /> Licensing continues to operate in the Police office in Waimea, due to the generosity of the <br /> Police Department. The crowded conditions require that those taking written examinations <br /> do so on one of the two chairs in the very small lobby. <br /> The referenced resolution requests authority to lease space that would allow the Police to <br /> have full use of their limited office space and resources, as well as improved security.
