There has been an increase in the number <br /> of reported cases of domestic violence incidents in Hawaii County which has led to a <br /> substantial increase in the amount of protective orders being processed and subsequently <br /> issued. This grant should improve Hawaii Police Department's ability to ensure prompt <br /> service of all protective orders, including those in which a respondent is a convicted felon <br /> or falls under the Lautenberg Act and are thus prohibited from possessing firearms and or <br /> ammunition. The expeditious service of protective orders and seizure of firearms from <br /> restrained respondents will significantly affect the level of protection afforded victims of <br /> domestic violence. <br /> Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State <br /> of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General for this grant. <br /> Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating <br /> this $42,610 Enforcement of Protective Orders and TROs Grant. <br /> If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Hawaii Police Department. <br /> Nancy .
