Sako <br />Deputy Director <br />The Geothermal Relocation and Community Benefits Fund Program was established for the <br />relocation of owner - occupants residing near the Puna Geothermal Venture's plant and who want to <br />be permanently relocated, and to fund expenditures for the benefit of Lower Puna; including but not <br />limited to, road improvements, water infrastructure development, land acquisition, parks and <br />recreational facility needs, civil defense mass transit improvements. Expenditures of this fund are <br />to be made in accordance with appropriations adopted by the Hawai'i County Council after <br />receiving recommendations from the Planning Director. <br />Council Member Fred Blas has requested that $450,000 of Geothermal Relocation and Community <br />Benefits funds be used towards improvements of Kahakai Boulevard, Ka`ohe Road and Pahoa <br />Village Road. Planning Director BJ Leithead Todd has given her recommendation towards this <br />project. <br />Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance to amend the Operating Budget and appropriate Geothermal <br />Relocation and Community Benefits funds for road improvements in District 5.
