REQUEST: DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION DEPARTMENT: Public Works - Traffic Division DATE: 08/25/2011 STAFF CONTACT: Ron Thiel PHONE: 808 - 961 -8341 Please prepare a resolution for DPW - Traffic Division to enter into a multi -year lease agreement for an additional two (2) years at a cost of $600.00 per month commencing on August 1, 2012, and ending on July 31, 2014, with the option to rent thereafter on a month to month basis for the purpose of leasing parking and storage space on the North side of the West Hawai'i Traffic Facility located at 81 -6394 Mamalahoa Highway Kona, Hawai'i, identified as Tax Map Key: (3)8 -1- 016:039 (por.) and the use of a 40 foot storage container located on site. B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The Traffic Division is currently leasing the above named property for one (1) year, commencing on August 1, 2011, and ending on July 31, 2012. The DPW- Traffic Division is in continued need of additional space to park vehicles, containers, and for storing materials outside. There is currently limited parking, no space for storing signal poles and mast arms. Additional parking will be needed when the West Hawai'i facility personnel is increased to provide full time personnel. Additional storage room is also needed to store supplies for thermoplastic storage and this location area has a 40 foot container for thermoplastic storage. The current location area is congested and Traffic will not have any room for its activities when personnel is expanded. Current expansion consists of five (5) additional Signs & Marking personnel . DPW - Traffic will budget accordingly for fiscal year 2012 -2013 and beyond for the annual amount of $6,600.00 in 020.281.5281.42.338 - Public Works Parking & Storage Rental.
