It is significant step forward in our efforts for conservation and <br />preservation of this particular property and other parcels throughout the island, and a wonderful <br />precedent for future grants and purchases has been established under the public and open space <br />legislation. This partnership was a collaborative effort by all and especially the community to <br />protect important places such as Kaiholena. Chair Yagong further added that the North Kohala <br />community has persisted in ongoing efforts to protect open space since 1996 when he was <br />councilmember. <br />Property Manager Ken Van Bergen appeared before Your Committee.
