LYMAN,DPW-Building Division <br /> SUBJECT: SIGN PERMIT APPLICATION FOR KAILUA VILLAGE DESIGN COMMISSION <br /> (KVDC)REVIEW(A2012-SK00017) <br /> Applicant: Hawaiian Sign&Design <br /> Owner: Relo Kona, LLC <br /> TMK: 7-5-004:031 <br /> Location: Kailua-Kona,North Kona,Hawai'i <br /> Our comments on the subject application are as follows: <br /> ❑ We have no comments or objections to the application. <br /> ® Approval of the application shall be conditioned on the comments as noted below. <br /> ❑ We oppose the approval of the application for the reasons noted below. <br /> ® All new building construction shall conform to current code requirements. Provide <br /> details for sign illumination and attachment to the building. <br /> ® Section 3-58 (b),Projecting Sign `A': The total area allowed shall not exceed twelve <br /> square feet for any sign not fronting a public street or vehicular access or for any sign <br /> located within the Kailua Village Core. Proposed sign `A', located at the corner of <br /> Kuakini Hwy&Henry St.,meets this requirement. <br /> ® Section 3-58 (b),Wall Sign `B': The total area allowed shall not exceed twelve square <br /> feet for any sign not fronting a public street or vehicular access or for any sign located <br /> within the Kailua Village Core. Proposed sign `B', located along the south elevation, <br /> meets this requirement. <br /> ® Section 3-58 (c), Sign Lettering& Symbols: Lettering and symbols shall not exceed 9" <br /> in height. Based on information provided,proposed sign `A' exceeds code requirement. <br /> Recommend applicant to proceed for a sign variance for approval. <br /> ® Section 3-59(a) (3), Sign Elevation,Projecting Sign `A': A projecting sign to be placed <br /> no less than 9'-0"above grade.
