Safety and Environmental Administrator 1994-2001 <br /> HT&T Hilo, Hawai'i 96720 <br /> Responsibilities for this position included developing and maintaining safety and health <br /> programs,activities and training for a workforce of approximately 171 employees of a <br /> power generation plant and transportation,stevedoring, and maintenance operation. <br /> Investigated and processed all industrial accident and liability claims. Conducted and <br /> coordinated safety inspections to insure compliance with county, state and federal <br /> regulations related to health,safety and the environment.Assisted Human Resource <br /> Supervisor in all matters pertaining to personnel. <br /> Results:After design and implementation of safety program in 1994, accident claims <br /> decreased by 31% in 1996, and 35%in 1997. Paid losses decreased by 85%in 1996, and <br /> 63%in 1997. Insurance premium costs decreased by 76%between 1995 and 1997, <br /> following safety program initiation. Between 1997 and 2000,there was a 40%reduction <br /> in the total number of accident claims filed,which resulted in additional reduction in <br /> paid losses and premium costs. <br /> Director, Department of Parks and Recreation 1990—1992 <br /> County of Hawai'i Hilo, Hawai'i 96720 <br /> Responsibilities for this positon included the overall management of the largest (at that <br /> time)department of the County of Hawaii. Duties included planning, initiating, <br /> evaluating and implementing all department rules and regulations. Provided overall <br /> administrative supervision to Division and Sections which included, Aquatics, Band, <br /> Culture and Arts, Elderly Activities, Golf Course, Hoolulu Complex, Parks Maintenance, <br /> Recreation, and Panaewa Equestrian Center(Zoo).The Department employed <br /> approximately 450 persons and operated and maintained more than 165 public facilities <br /> island wide.Additionally,the Department was responsible for providing programs for <br /> the elderly and recreational programs for the public. The Department operated with an <br /> annual budget in excess of$11,000,000. <br />
