Thank you for opening public discussion on the topic. Placing the offender into a position without access to support for criminal activity is the sixth step in the seven-step restorative justice process.The prosecutor already has$900,000 for the restorative justice project.The funds requested in Res 67-17 should come from that fund instead of Contingency Relief. The prosecutor is attempting to transfer$10,000 of law-abiding citizens' hard-earned taxes to pay the prosecutor's sweetheart nonprofit to serve drug-offense convicts.The ex-offenders should pay for their services.See if a bank will loan them the funds for their services that include job search and interview training. If the project is successful, the ex- offenders will repay the loan when they get jobs. If the project is not successful, no one should fund it. Res 67-17 is a sweetheart deal for a nonprofit that duplicates the services provided by another nonprofit,the Going Home project.The state law and rules require others to apply for program funds set aside for that purpose.There is a county fund for nonprofits.
