In addition, the National Park Service (NPS) assists in the maintenance of the Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail along with the Ala Kahakai Trail Association, who acquired the last remaining parcel of Kaiholena South. Community groups including Malama Kohala Kahakai and Kohala Lihikai have been working with Kohala High school students to design and install an interpretive sign at the public access entrance to Kaiholena. Fishermen and other users of the land continue to keep the shoreline free of trash. With various studies completed, Malama Kohala Kahakai stewardship vision was notably recognized by the PONC Commission and forwarded their recommendations to P&R.
