Like, right now, if we say we're not <br />3 <br />going to grant pay raises to you and your cabinet for <br />4 <br />the next two years because we question the <br />5 <br />affordability part of it, then we have inversion -- <br />6 <br />and here we go again, folks. <br />7 <br />MR. KIM: To put things in balance, Sir, I <br />8 <br />think there is awareness -- not think -- I know <br />9 <br />there is awareness of those who have the authority, <br />10 <br />responsibility, legislative and otherwise, but <br />11 <br />especially legislative. They realize that some of the <br />12 <br />benefits given to government employees were unbalanced <br />13 <br />with the private sector, but you understand a little <br />14 <br />bit of why that became. Government was competing with <br />15 <br />private business, and working for government was not an <br />16 <br />attractive thing, whether you be a person -- <br />17 <br />administrative or person who does maintenance work -- <br />18 <br />and it just was not competitive. <br />19 <br />Even today, especially places like West <br />20 <br />Hawai ʻ i, very difficult time in finding anybody to even <br />21 <br />apply for, let's say -- environmental management <br />22 <br />transfer station -- those are not very pleasant jobs, <br />23 <br />because the resort industry pays much more.
