Merit Appeals Board <br />December 2, 2021 <br />(At this time, Ms. Jamielyn Martinez, Classification and Pay Division Head, Human <br />Resources Department, came forward.) <br />CHR. CABANAS: Good morning, Jamie. Before you begin, I just want to express a really <br />special thank you to all the managers. The Board requested that all of you be here and we <br />believe this is a good opportunity for both, the managers and the Board, to meet in an <br />environment where there's not an appeal. Okay. <br />So, we want you to feel at ease and, basically, it's a general overview. And the Board members <br />may have questions of each manager at the end of your presentation. And the presentation, we'll <br />say, about 15 -minutes each, approximately. And then, the Board members are free to ask <br />questions of each manager as you come up to the dais. And so, thank you, Jamie, for being here. <br />Nice to see you. <br />MR. KUNZ: Ms. Cabanas. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Yeah. Oh, and I will introduce all of you. <br />MR. KUNZ: Thank you. <br />CHR. CABANAS: Yeah. So, yes—without further ado, let me formally introduce each of the <br />Board members to all of you. Thank you, Mr. Kunz. <br />So, starting with my right, we have Ms. Kate De Soto, she's our newest Board member. And to <br />my left, Ms. Gay Mathews and Mr. Charlie Kunz. Coming in via Zoom from Kailua-Kona is <br />Mr. Melvin Ventura, he is our Vice -Chair. So, we have a quorum—all five Board members are <br />here. <br />MS. MATHEWS: (Inaudible—microphone not turned on.) <br />CHR. CABANAS: Yes, thank you. And, of course, you all must know J Yoshimoto. J is our <br />Assistant Corporation Counsel. He is the Counsel for the Board. When we have an appeal <br />hearing, then J is not our counsel. The counsel is our Deputy Attorney General Amanda Furman <br />from Oahu. She provides legal counsel to the Board in an appeal hearing. <br />And, of course, well, being—forgetting Glynis. We all know Glynis. Glynis serves as our <br />Secretary -Reporter to the Board and she is here to help the Board members, keeping us all <br />organized with our binders. She provides our exhibits when there's appeal hearing. She, pretty <br />much, keeps us on target with everything that we need to do as Board members. Because we, as <br />Board members, are basically volunteers and we come from different professions—some are <br />finance, Workforce Development, Hawaii Community College, and for mea retiree. <br />And so, I think—would any of the Board members like to say anything before Jamie starts? <br />Ms. Mathews. <br />Page 7 <br />
