cultural conservation, historic preservation and sustainable trail management practices <br /> and use; <br /> (d) To facilitate partnerships and collaborations with amongst all stakeholders for the <br /> promotion of appropriate trail management,use,research and interpretation; <br /> (e) To build and maintain community skills, knowledge attitudes, leadership and financial <br /> capacity to be active participants and beneficiaries of effective trail and shoreline <br /> management and related activities; <br /> (f) To acquire, lease, license, or otherwise undertake the management of lands, facilities, <br /> and/or environmental resources related to or associated with the Ala Kahakai National <br /> Historic Trail system and to acquire or grant easements with respect to such lands for <br /> the purposes of managing said lands and resources according to ahupua a-based <br /> management systems including integrated, cooperative, mixed-use management plans <br /> for environmental preservation and restoration and preservation and perpetuation of <br /> cultural uses and activities including appropriate economic uses,to support these uses, <br /> and other uses; <br /> (g) To promote scientific research and public and private education with respect to <br /> Hawaiian ecosystems, cultural uses of and activities relating to lands and resources, <br /> traditional ahupua'a-based management of lands and resources, and balancing <br /> scientific, cultural restoration and economic uses of land; and <br /> To, at its option, operate, i.e. take action as set forth in this Section <br /> ARTICLE IV <br /> Restrietive Activities <br /> Section 1. ATA is a nonprofit corporation and shall not authorize or issue any shares of <br /> stock. No dividend shall be paid and no part of the income or profit of ATA shall be distributed <br /> to the directors or officers of ATA. No loans shall be made by ATA to its directors or officers. <br /> ATA may,however,pay compensation in a reasonable amount to its directors or officers for <br /> services rendered or for reimbursement of expenses incurred fulfilling the purposes mentioned in <br /> Article III Section 1 (a-g). Except as permitted by this Section,no part of the assets or earnings <br /> of ATA shall inure to the benefit of any individual. ATA shall not participate in or intervene <br /> (including publication or distribution of statements) in any political campaign on behalf of any <br /> candidate for public office_ Notwithstanding any other provision of ATA's articles of <br /> incorporation,ATA shall not carry on any activities not permitted (1)by a corporation exempt <br /> from Federal Income Tax under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (or <br /> corresponding provision of any future United States internal revenue law); or(2)by a <br /> corporation, contributions to which are deductible under Section 170(c)(2) of the Internal <br /> Revenue Code of 1986 (or corresponding provision of any future United States internal revenue <br /> law); <br /> 26-05 <br />
