Village Stroll. They have a monthly event that runs on Sunday, from 1:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m. on Alii Drive. Alii Drive is closed down and there are music, vendors,
etc. If CSW wants to have a table, then the committee needs to fill out an
application to be approved by the board when they meet. The cost is $30 for a
booth.
K. Schneider said that another event that CSW could consider for a voter
st
registration table is the 1 annual Hawaii Island Gay Pride Parade. Their booths
are by donation and they accept everybody. The parade is scheduled for
June 26, 2010 in Kailua Kona.
K. Schneider said the League of Women Voters also brought up the need to
create a brochure that would be able to direct people to websites where they
could study the issue prior to the election.
E. Cabatu mentioned that the committee needs to look at more events that
gather lots of people such as the KWXX Hoolaulea in Hilo. J. Balberde-Kamalii
suggested the Fourth of July parades.
K. Schneider said that AAUW and the League of Women Voters are open to
CSW piggy backing with them. They are also willing to help with manpower for
CSW’s events.
K. Nova stated that CSW needs to decide if the committee wants to put any
focus on it now or do they want to do voter registration closer to the actual voting
day. She suggested that CSW keep their ears open for events and that
K. Schneider spearhead this project.
J. Balberde-Kamalii suggested that CSW submit a letter to the Kona Village Stroll
board requesting permission for the third quarter. K. Schneider agreed to write
the letter.
2.Legislative Update
E. Cabatu referred CSW to check the legislative website for any updates.
D.Community Reports
None.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A.Teen Dating Violence Prevention Peer Education Conference
C. Kitaoka suggested changing this heading to “teen dating violence prevention.”
CSW agreed.
C. Kitaoka suggested collaborating with N. Kelly in finding a meaningful way to
distribute the books and the DVDs. There was some discussion that N. Kelly and
her group wanted to bring Dr. Jill Murray back for a presentation.
5
