3. Essay Contest <br />C. Kitaoka reported that approximately 96 people were in attendance. The event <br />was very successful. She circulated an album of the photos taken at the awards <br />luncheon. She offered to chair the essay contest for next year. <br />E. Takazawa said that she liked the way the program included recognizing the <br />teachers and the principals. <br />C. Kitaoka suggested more participation from the West Hawaii Schools. <br />M. Masunaga said she hand delivered the packet to the schools encouraging <br />them to participate as a school assignment. <br />M. Masunaga offered to submit the photo of the winners in West Hawaii Today <br />and the Hawaii Island Journal. <br />4. Mentoring <br />M. Masunaga reported that she is in the process of setting up the mentoring <br />dinner on April 27 at the La Bourgogne French Restaurant in Kona. Kelly Shaw <br />from the Soroptimist International of Kona would like M. Masunagas daughter, <br />Colette Masunaga, to do a presentation on the Teen Dating Violence Prevention <br />Initiative at the dinner. <br />5. Hawaii County Womens Hall of Fame <br />C. Kitaoka confirmed October 6, 2007 as the date for the Womens Hall of Fame <br />dinner in the Waters Edge Ballroom at the Hilton Waikoloa Village. <br />6. Equal Pay <br />Tabled. <br />B. Health <br />1. Womens Health Month <br />E. Takazawa reported that she will start collaborating this month and she has <br />been brainstorming different ideas. She has been talking to people who have <br />participated in the past and she has been encouraged to continue what she has <br />been doing highlighting different areas of alternative health. She would like to <br />have an event in the Kona area. L. Guluzzy suggested that E. Takazawa contact <br />the ILWU in Kona for funding assistance. <br />K. Peters said that she and K. Nova have discussed planning an event in Kona. <br />However, it will not be alternative health. They could do mental health aspects <br />anddepressionandanxietyscreenings.Theywouldlikegettosomefemale <br />practitioners for a few hours to provide consultations on different treatments for <br />menopause,aquestionandanswersession,andinformationandreferral. <br />3 <br /> <br />
