J. Coburn reported that she submitted an article and photo of Joshua Levenson, <br />first place essay contest winner for grades 11-12 from Kanu ‘o Ka ‘Aina, to the <br />Waimea Gazette. <br />4. Equal Pay Day <br />M. Masunaga reported that the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of <br />Women (HSCSW) will not sponsor an Equal Pay for Women event this April. A <br />consensus was reached that CSW sponsor an educational event about the <br />implementation of recommendations from the UN Beijing Conference for women. <br />M. Masunaga reported that she contacted the American Bar Association, Women <br />in the Profession regarding a recommendation for events relating to the Beijing <br />Conference. The ABA offered to forward any information to her. <br />E. Takazawa asked that P. Newland follow up with Representative Helene Hale, <br />since she had attended the Beijing Conference. P. Newland agreed to <br />spearhead a UN Day. <br />5. Mentoring <br />M. Masunaga reported that she is in the process of sending out the thank you <br />card and photos to Washington Mutual. <br />6. Hawaii County Women’s Hall of Fame <br />D. Pung reported that October 22, 2005 has been confirmed with the Hilton <br />Waikoloa Village to have the Women’s Hall of Fame at the Water’s Edge <br />Ballroom. The judging criteria were emailed to CSW members for review and <br />revisions. Jade Moon has not been confirmed yet. D. Pung agreed to work on a <br />time line. <br />B. Health <br />1. Women’s Health Month <br />M. Masunaga reported that she emailed Jeanne Ohta and she is waiting to hear <br />from the HSCSW regarding the status of the trust fund. She suggested that <br />CSW continue to plan for Women’s Health Month events and not rely on any <br />funding from the HSCSW. <br />E. Takazawa said she will start working on a grant for Women’s Health Month. <br />She has an unofficial approval from a 501(c)3 that she is associated with and <br />they will take this on as a project and dispense the funds. E. Takazawa has <br />expressed interest in writing a grant to the Healing Our Island Community Fund. <br />M. Masunaga stated that Dale Suezaki will do a follow up on financial planning <br />and Kim Jackson will do an update on estate planning in Kona. If funds are <br />needed, they will ask Morgan Stanley for funding since CSW cannot rely on any <br />outside funding this year. Since there are territorial issues in Hilo, she suggested <br />that D. Pung approach the counterpart in Hilo and ask whether she would be <br />3 <br /> <br />
