do presentations in Hilo. Perhaps Tutu's House could also utilize the <br />guest speakers for Waimea. During Women's Health Month, Tutu's <br />House has planned an event twice a week for the entire month of <br />September. The Bay Clinic has agreed to plan an event in every <br />geographical area. CSW has offered to help the Bay Clinic promote their <br />events. <br />C. LIAISON <br />1. HSCSW <br />P. Newland reported that she attended a meeting on Bridge to Hope, H.B. <br />129 prior to the HSCSW meeting. Teresa Bill coordinated the event which <br />was about helping women on welfare and First-to-Work people apply <br />education as part of the work requirements to enable them to become self <br />sufficient. One speaker who is a single mother provided a heart <br />and moving story on how she got her life back together. Another <br />from California provided a story about what it is like for a woman going <br />through life without Bridge to Hope or getting a job without higher <br />education so they are still bound to the low poverty lifestyle. The Bridge to <br />Hope Program is seen as an important tool to enable women to get proper <br />education. She circulated a flyer and brochures on the Bridge t <br />Program. <br />P. Newland stated that she also brought back a handout on the Hawaii <br />State Legislature Women's Political Caucus 2003 Legislative Agenda <br />which was dedicated to the memory of Congresswoman Patsy Mink. <br />addition, she made a special connection with Senator J. Kalani E <br />He supports women and children's issues. She shared copies of h <br />newsletter. <br />P. Newland provided a copy of the book called "Dressed to Kill" <br />She stated that she gave a copy of the book to Governor Lingle and <br />suggested that we look at a breast health awareness campaign. S <br />personally donated a book and made the presentation to Governor Lingle <br />on her own without CSW's knowledge or consent. <br />D. MARKETING <br />1. Newsletter <br />S. Shirachi Gonsalves reported that she found a male student (Nic Los <br />Banos) who will be taking on the newsletter. The deadline to su <br />articles and bio of new members are April 30. <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br />A. Resignations and appointments <br />C. Hara reported that CSW has been given back the opportunity to voice our <br />recommendations on who the committee would like to serve on CSW. <br />Wendell Hatada, Executive Assistant, provided a list of potential candidates <br />4 <br /> <br />
