D. DVIAT <br />West Hawaii - L. Slutter reported that Kona has new leadership. <br />given donations and are researching the appropriate way they can <br />rd <br />monies. Regular DVIAT meeting is the 3 Thursday of every month <br />rd <br />East Hawaii - The Legal Procedures meets on the 3 Monday of every month, <br />th <br />and regular DVIAT meeting is the 4 of every month. This past fall, Ron Paul <br />(Police Dept.) was awarded $10,000 from the Weinberg Foundation <br />Zonta Club to put together a brochure to provide DV information <br />about services available. This brochure is still being worked o <br />E. FUNDRAISER/GRANTS <br />D. Auldridge suggested that the commission should identify a pro <br />goal that needs funding before doing any fundraising efforts. K <br />contact the committee members for ideas for projects. K. Wolfe <br />ÐWrestlingÑ fundraiser as a way to get men involved. <br />L. Lord: ÐÈ.Fundraising doesnÓt work unless you know what you w <br />the money on. WeÓre coming up on the end of this fiscal year an <br />have probably $1500 that we didnÓt even spend out of our commiss <br />why would we be fundraising if weÓre sending back $1500? I thin <br />commission is here to advise the Mayor as to what needs to be do <br />County. IÓm not sure I want to go out and fundraise and take mon <br />programs that are providing direct services. I think we might b <br />peoplesÓ toes. And if we are talking about getting the message <br />county, is that our job to get the message to the men? Or is it <br />the Mayor and let him know he needs to give those non-profits, s <br />agencies, education agencies money in our county to get the mess <br />men in our county. That could be done more effectively and reac <br />the money was used for a public service announcement on the Big <br />before we jump into things and say lets go raise some money, I w <br />determine whatÓs our goal, whoÓs our audience, whatÓs the best w <br />bang for the buckÓ kind of thing, and is it really the commissio <br />itÈÈÈare we stepping on somebodyÓs toes, are we taking funds awa <br />somebody else who is working on that already.Ñ <br />K. Kudlo said that the commission would be getting funds from th <br />talking money away from any agency, and that public service announcements <br />would be a great idea for a project. <br />Discussion was held on funds and projects. L. Slutter reiterate <br />comments on the role of the commission. She questioned the need <br />funds. D. Auldridge said that one of the other goals of the com <br />provide education and community awareness, and that would be a p <br />reason to need funds. The commission has two primary focuses: <br />assist the Mayor in identifying both resources and gaps and how <br />those, and the second is to do community awareness and public ed <br />K.
