than most places. Something needs to be done about the expense of electricity here. The cost
makes it almost not worth working when you can go on public assistance.
Electricity costs are ridiculously high and that is why people of Puna are going self- sufficient and
off -grid every day. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE ABOUT HELCO AS THEY NOW CAN CHARGE
WHATEVER THEY WANT AND IT IS VERY UNAFFORDABLE. They propose more alternative
energy (such as more geothermal) yet do not meet with the people and do not ever propose to
REDUCE RATES as a result.
with electric rates so high, and us living so close to geothermal couldn't we do better,
electricity costs highest in the nation.
Planning for public utilities should be expanded into the estates areas. Utilities should be
underground whenever possible. Internet service should be made available in town and at hubs
in the estates for ease of accessibility until residents start building in the estates. Water should
be made accessible in the estates with tanks in the estates leading to houses as they are being
built at reasonable cost. Other viable forms of power generation should implemented at
reasonable costs to the citizens of Puna - Pahoa present and future.
HELCO is outrageous -with geothermal Pahoa & Puna deserves lowest rates.
underground those UGLY lines
Over priced
There needs to be community involvement with the utility companies to put $ back into their
services in the way of upgrades and new technology instead of all going to profits.
electricity could be improved in old buildings
electricity is very expensive considering Hawaii's high use os renewables,
Electric rates are a disgrace, considering the potential for alternative sources. Phone and
internet are shaky and often unreliable
IN Pahoa I am sure it is all fine... Surrounding subdivisions and communities it is fair at
best .... Seems that for such a small island there would be electricity ran EVERYWHERE and
phone and internet ... and what is up with the cell service? People in far away lands and foreign
third world countries have better cell service than here....
Frequent outages for the phone, cable, and electricity.
Outrageous prices
Public Utilities Page 8
