And, I, I can't live in the house, and as far as renting, I have had people tell me why don't I turn
it into a drug center. I've had people even say why don't you just bring the homeless over and
let `em camp in the yard. Well, I'm not built that way, sirs. Not at all. I do things the right
way, and I expect people to do the right thing also. And, I don't have any intention of renting it.
I'll put it on the market to sell, and thank God I'm lucky to have Hawaiians that have five -six -
seven -eight grandchildren here. They came, they wanted to be with, and they will stay in the
house and maintain it until it's sold if that's your decision.
I -I, I'm too tired and too hurt and too upset to fight any more in life. I don't want any more
people telling me how to live. I just want to do the best I can, and I would love to have a bed &
breakfast because it'sI'd like to be able to come over and go and visit with the people. I
haven't been able to because of my relationship with my ex -manager, and I've just stayed in
the—or until I wanted to see what would happen, and I couldn't even wait that long so I decided
to change horses in the middle of the stream and find somebody that loves Hawaii and has a
reason to be here. And, they do. And, they'll stay in the house until it's sold. So, so don't have
to worry about them. They know that.
CLARKSON: Thank you.
HENKEL: Thank you. Are there any other questions? You may be seated.
VALDEZ: Thank you.
HENKEL: Oh, do you have anything to add?
STEPHENSON: I think I would like to put a little bit out there with my wife and I and our
venture to come back home to my home state. We've been involved in trying to find the right
opportunity to bring us home, which finding Jan and the opportunity that exists in Honoli`i
seemed to be most valid after a few years of looking into other opportunities or options. We
collectively decided this would be a perfect venture to look into. It puts us on island, in State.
I'm literally 20 minutes from my grandchildren. My son-in-law and his family has grown up in
the Honoli`i area, and I think to be able to share this experience with our mo'opuna is quite a
treasure. I think it's very important, and with that being said, I think being a part of this
neighborhood and community is very important to us. To us all. And, I do firmly believe, with
our commitment, to be a good fit for the area and the neighborhood as well as the community.
HENKEL: Thank you. Any other questions? You may be seated.
STEPHENSON: Thank you.
HENKEL: We've got three people signed up to testify so I'll bring all three of them up.
Cherlita Gutteling, Robert Duerr, and Gary Maeda. I hope I pronounced your names correctly,
but please have a seat, and we'll get you sworn in. If you'd raise your right hands. Do you
swear or affirm to tell the truth in this matter before the Planning Commission?
EXHIBIT A
