Page 45
MR. HIGGINS: -- spotlight of not considering
affordability and how are the taxpayers of this County
going to afford to pay for all of this?
So, anyway, I apologize dramatically for my
lecturing on that, but --
CHR. ONO: No, point well made. Point well
made.
MR. HIGGINS: -- nobody has ever paid
attention to that. We just keep kicking the can down
the road. It's automatic. And that's what I feel
about this. And Bill has done a remarkable job, but
all of a sudden I'm looking at this and saying on June
19th, we're expected to give all these pay raises. Oh?
I don't feel good about that without having somebody
tell me that we don't have to borrow any more money to
pay for salaries and benefits.
MS. SELF: If I may interject, that's the
sort of thing that could go into your rules. So you
would have rules for review of the salaries and rules
for compensation, which is what you're mainly charged
within the charter is you shall review and compensate.
So, just because it says -- it just has to be you have
to compensate them so that their total salaries and
benefits have a reasonable relationship to compensation
in the public and private sectors.
ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES
(808) 933-9800
