Page 33
MS. IKEDA: Merit -based to me is overstepping
our boundary. I mean, I used to work in the school
system, and when they were trying to create this merit
system as to how to pay the teachers, it is the most
difficult thing to do because it's so subjective.
I don't think that the Salary Commission --
that as a Salary Commission we should get involved with
this merit thing. We should just set other parameters
and work with those parameters.
As I said, merit is very, very difficult and
everybody sees it differently.
CHR. ONO: Well, I see it's an opportune time,
because the draft plan that was requested which we
drafted up is included as one of the handouts today,
and I think it serves as a good basis for discussion on
how the Commission wants to proceed forward.
So, the draft plan is included in your
handouts (SEE ATT. A). It's this one-page thing. It's
called "Draft Plan Review and Discussion Proposed Salary
Adjustments Effective July lst, 2019." And if you
recall, I volunteered to draft out this plan, giving
timeframes and all those kind of things.
So, Mr. Becker, you are welcome to go back to
your seat. You don't have to sit there all day long.
MR. BECKER: Thank you.
ISLAND COURT REPORTING & TRANSCRIPTION SERVICES
(808) 933-9800
