FIRE CAPTAIN 2 - 6.025 • Plans and conducts drills and training sessions on firefighting and rescue methods, use of station equipment and tools, and on department policies, procedures, fire codes, regulations, and laws. • Preplans strategy for firefighting, search and rescue, and hazardous materials operations by becoming familiar with the conditions existing in the assigned area. • Plans work assignments and safety inspection tours for subordinates. • Consults with superiors on unusual problems and situations relating to fire hazards and code violations. • Administers the fire facilities and equipment maintenance program. • Conducts periodic inspections of station and equipment to ensure proper maintenance and operating readiness. • Instructs relief personnel of the proper duties of the Company Commander. • May act as relief for superior officers in their absences. • May organize and conduct demonstrations in firefighting and rescue methods and explain use of equipment. • May operate fire apparatus as needed. • May participate in firefighting duties as required. • May be assigned to any of the department's specialized bureaus and supervises and/or performs work in connection therewith. Training: • Participates in the development of standard emergency operation procedures and safety policies for the Hawaii Fire Department. • Participates in developing countywide standardization of instructions related to firefighting, search and rescue, hazardous materials, and the safe operation of fire fighting equipment. • Coordinates in-service training programs with various company commanders on various topics. • Prepares and distributes training materials to fire companies island -wide. • Conducts all Fire Fighter Recruit classes for new hires. • Hans and conducts standardized driver training instructions for all members of the emergency operations division as well as the Fire Equipment Mechanics.
